There is something about Christmas that always makes me think of filing for unemployment. I suppose it’s the fact that because you lose so many “workable” days because of Christmas/New Years, that you can almost make more money by staying in bed and collecting unemployment.
I was once on a temp assignment and I had claimed unemployment the previous week and was still eligible to claim unemployment benefits.
While working on the temp assignment, I discovered that If I took a “half hour lunch” I would make too much money for the week to claim unemployment and I would lose the money that I could collect from unemployment (because I had only worked two days in the week). However, if I took a “one hour lunch” I would make just under the maximum allowed income and then I would be able to collect half of my benefit rate for the week from unemployment (which at the time was about $150.00).
